Group Universal Life (GUL) insurance can help preserve your family’s lifestyle.
Coverage for you
You are eligible for GUL insurance if you are an active full-time or part-time employee of the University of Connecticut, regularly working a minimum of 17.5 hours per week.
- Coverage amounts available: Increments of $10,000. The minimum coverage amount is $10,000. The maximum coverage amount is 5 times your base annual salary, rounded to the next higher $10,000; or $1,500,000, whichever is less.
- Guaranteed issue amount available within 60 days of your plan start date without proof of good health: 3 times your base annual salary, rounded to the next higher $10,000; or $500,000, whichever is less.
- If you provide proof of good health, you can: Purchase more than the Guaranteed Issue amount—up to 5 times your base annual salary, rounded to the next higher $10,000; or $1,500,000, whichever is less.
- Increase your life insurance coverage at any time, up to the maximum allowed. Coverage for your spouse/domestic partner. You can purchase coverage for your eligible spouse in the following amounts. In $10,000 units, up to the maximum of $100,000.
- Guaranteed Issue amount available for your spouse under age 65, within 60 days of your eligibility, without proof of good health: $50,000.
- If your spouse provides proof of good health, you can purchase coverage up to $100,000, in $10,000 increments.
- Spouses age 65 and older can apply with proof of good health.
For coverage to become effective, you must be actively at work and your spouse must not be hospitalized, confined at home under the care of a doctor, or unable to perform the normal daily activities of a person of the same age and gender.
